Tool-assisted curl clumping

Denman Brush Method

Use a Denman brush to define curls by brushing through small sections of wet, styled hair from root to tip. The brush clumps curls together and creates tension for a more uniform pattern.

✨ Tip:
Best for curly to coily textures (3A–4A) that want enhanced definition, reduced frizz, and a more polished curl look. Works especially well when paired with a curl cream and sectioning.

Frizz control & smooth definition

PRAYING HANDS

This is known as a smoothing technique. cover your hands with product & place one hand on each side of your hair near the root. Gently move your hands down the length of your hair. Your hands will be in a ‘prayer’ position. You can follow this with scrunching or raking.

✨ Tip: Best for wavy (2A–2C)and looser curl types (3A )to reduce frizz and create smooth, elongated definition.

Volume and bounce for loose curls

SCRUNCHING

The most widely used & most intuitive way to form curls. Scrunching simply means scrunching product into your hair from the tips up towards your scalp.

✨ Tip: Ideal for wavy (2A–2C) and soft curly (3A–3B) hair to enhance bounce and natural curl pattern.

Separation and light definition

RAKING

Raking means pulling your fingers through your hair as if your hands were a comb. Be sure to use a product with slip to avoid snagging any hair. This will seperate the hair into sections which you can use to create your clumps.

✨ Tip: Perfect for curly (3A–3C) hair to create definition and minimize clumping — especially if your curls need more separation.

Defined, elongated curls for thick textures

ROPING

This method involves separating your hair into sections or clumps. Take each section in your hand as if it were a rope and squeeze it to coat it with the product.

✨ Tip: Great for thick curly (3C) and coily (4A) textures that need control and long-lasting hold.

Precision curl definition

FINGER COILING

Wrap small sections/clumps of hair around your fingers in a twisting motion to enhance the curls.

✨ Tip: Best for curly to coily (3B–4B) hair that needs help with uniform curl definition or has uneven curl patterns

Tight coils & curl training

FINGER ROLLING

Wrap small sections/clumps around your fingers and roll them up towards your scalp. Imagine your fingers are a roller.

✨ Tip: Ideal for coily (4A–4C) textures to create strong, springy definition and train the curl pattern over time.
